Unlocking Complexities of Modifiers: Avoid Modifiers Usage Mistakes

Event Materials (Key Required)

Modifiers are a crucial component of billing and coding that enable you to accurately describe the patient interaction. When sending medical claims to insurance companies, healthcare providers must describe the services and/or procedures used to treat the patient, as well as the reasons why the stated services and procedures were medically necessary. In this webinar, we will review the purpose of modifiers; learn to recognize when modifiers should be applied appropriately, and how to avoid the misuse of modifiers. A patient history and physical, as well as examination, is no longer a driver to select a level of E/M. What is the documentation requirement that will justify an E/M code to be a significant, separately identifiable service in addition to a procedure? In this session, we’ll clarify the latest guidelines and use of modifiers.

Some payers have special modifier requirements, and there are also coding manual standards that call for modifiers. Processing medical claims rapidly is made possible by providing the proper modifiers. Incorrect use of modifiers will inevitably result in lost revenue, denied or rejected claims, and audit notices. Expert Lynn M. Anderanin will discuss modifiers and the different types of modifiers and break down the appropriate use. We will also discuss how the use of modifiers can affect reimbursement and help to avoid claim rejections, denials and audits.
