Course Description

To help healthcare providers such as hospitals and physicians comply with relevant Federal health care laws and regulations, OIG creates compliance resources, which are often tailored to particular providers. OIG’s compliance documents include special fraud alerts, advisory bulletins, podcasts, videos, brochures, and papers providing guidance on compliance with Federal health care program standards. OIG also issues advisory opinions, which cover the application of the Federal anti-kickback statute and OIG’s other fraud and abuse authorities to the requesting party’s existing or proposed business arrangement

This session will cover the DOJ manual and the 11 key subject areas that federal prosecutors may consider when investigating. Elements will be discussed in detail along with examples for better understanding. We will drill down the OIG key elements of a compliance program comparatively. We will learn how to measure the current compliance program and how to improve if necessary. Teaching the staff how and where to find policies, create a compliance culture that is effective and creates a consistency within the team. Learning the need for auditing and monitoring and reporting back to the appropriate people. Also, maintain and execute changes on a timely basis.

Gina M. Piccirilli, CPC,CPB,CPMA is a Senior Consultant with Granite GRC Consulting. An auditor and trainer with over 20 years of experience, including 10 years in management roles working with healthcare organizations. She is an expert in developing innovative claims processes and procedures within the revenue cycle and has experience consulting emergency departments, primary care, and multi-specialty facilities. She is currently completing her B.S. in healthcare administration/management from the State University of New York Empire State College.
