Case Management in a VUCA World – Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous

Conference Materials (Password Required)

Today’s world is constantly changing. Healthcare is affected by changes in public policy, reimbursement, regulations/ laws, technological and scientific developments and discoveries. How do we keep pace in this environment? How do we plan? Can we learn to anticipate changes and move forward successfully?

Today’s webinar looks at these influences, their actual and emotional toll. Today we will be looking to the military to learn about concepts and a philosophy of surviving and even thriving in this tumultuous environment.

VUCA is an acronym for volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. It comes out of the U.S. War College circa 1987. It has been used and embraced by business; technology, manufacturing, and telecommunications but has seen little or no usage in health care. It is about being proactive, not reactive, about learning to look for the clues or indications of change and jumpstarting the process. It’s a new way of thinking, anticipating and embracing change and challenges.

  • Will Identify productive responses to change – planning vs fear and inertia
  • Will understand the skills needed to cope with uncertainty
  • Will understand the risks of resisting change
